a few weeks ago, i posted about two second hand/vintage finds that i made at fretex, but only showed you one of them. here, finally, is the other: my 40s dress.
i am, as i then said, not totally sure if it is really from the 40s or if it is retro from the 80s, but either way it's vintage. i am thinking about taking out the shoulder-pads as they really are enormous and i have not the smallest shoulders in the world myself, but in that case i would replace them with smaller wones. the smallest ones i can find, that is.
i still would like to know how old it exactly is, so i thought i'd post a picture of one of the buttons and a picture of the label. anyone any idea?

It definitely seem 1980s to me, which doesn't make it any less fabulous! What a beauty!
If you take the shoulder pads off the shoulder seam will be too long and the sleeves will hang weirdly, so you'd probably have to reinstall the sleeves to make them sit right again. It may still be worth it!
@ nadine: vielen Dank! Ich hoffe cih finde bald mal eine Gelegenheit es auszuführen - für den Alltag ist es doch ein klein wenig zu fein, aber für's Theater grade richtig...
@ vasiliisa: i know, so i'll first consult a friend of mine who is a seamstress (like, a professional one). i hope that i won't have too much work with it if i put in smaller pads.. we'll see. maybe i'll just leave it, it's great as it is as well...
@ linnea: jag försöker att minska den lite, eller snarare fá lite mer saker in som jag verkligen älskar och fá ut saker som jag bara har för att de var billiga.. men, jag tror att i jämförelse sá är den nog lagom stor, inte för lite och inte för mycket...
Den var fin! Som sagt du behöver nog montera om ärmarna om du tar ut axelvaddarna.
Ang klippning: Har du nån bra bild på ansiktet och hur långt håret är så ska jag knåpa ihop ett förslag. :)

@ linnea: jag har funderat kring det, men eftersom jag vill bli av med det som jag inte ska ha kvar i min garderob nágorlunda snabbt nu sá är ebay ändá en bättre alternativ, framförallt eftersom jag inte har sá värst mánga saker alltihop sett liksom.

80 säger jag också, lappen säger allt. och materialet också, var poppis då. men helt klart 40's inspirerad. nu saknas bara en 40's frilla också ;D
axelvaddarna fanns på 40-talet också, har med frisyrerna att göra.
@ betty lou: ja, jag vet. ska väl snart klippa mig, och sedan fár jag väl ta och báde träna make-up och frisyrer =) fast, inte 80tals-frisyrer för den delen, de skulle jag inte orka med.
Hmm, mit dem Alter kann ich dir leider nicht weiterhelfen...die Schulterpolstersache ist ja n bisschen tricky, nicht dass das Kleid dann insgesamt nicht mehr so sitzt!

@ cathy: ja, eine freundin von mir ist gelernte schneiderin, die wollte ich mal fragen was man tun müsste bzw. wie groß die kleinsten möglichen schulterpolster sind, ohne dass man viel ändern müsste...
To judge by the material I'd say it's an 80's dress.
They used shoulder pads to match the big hair-do's back in the 40's.
The shoes were chunkier as well to make the whole thing more "symmetrical".
